Bar Lurcat: A Quick Recap for You Rockabilly Fans (by Alan Subola) Another strange night in the city that knows how to keep its secrets. Last night the Champs rocked Bar Lurcat and the upscale hooch hut was packed wall to wall with drinkers, dancers and diehards. A number of suburban Vibro fans were in attendance, though a few Lee’s regulars were also brave enough to venture in. The band played an eclectic set of B-sides,oddities and requests. “Galway Bay” off the debut disc was played for the first time in eons. “Champagne Wine & Cigarettes” is a newer original that points to a loungier direction, Bill’s “Have Guitar Will Travel” was certainly a hit and the band also played Les Paul & Mary Ford’s “Are You Satisfied” to a grateful dance contingent. Memorable dances we recall seeing were the Lindy, the Frug, the Twist, the Tango, the Texas 2 Step, the Waltz, the Swim, and, oh yeah … the Dry Hump. Relating to patron behavior, the Vibro Champ council of decency had an ad hoc meeting at 1:45 in the Lurcat Chamber of Knights Water Closet to hereby ban all clothed or non clothed acts of reproduction, shagging, and pseudo copulation on the dance floor (with or without little people). This will be punishable by a $10 fine or 2 drink minimum paid directly to the band, on the spot. Stay tuned for the next installment of concert listings and shameless advertisements. 4.08.03 If you happened to be up into the wee hours on Sunday and just happened to channel surf across the MPLS/St Paul public TV station you might have caught our appearance on a new show, Bootleg Minneapolis, along with a bunch of local faves like Faux Jean, 12 Rods and Planet Melvin. It was a clip show and our clip was another stunning, yet to be released Alan Subola instrumental, Mr Mofongo, from Lee's in December. Dave and Alan sat down for an interview for a show which will be broadcast later, where they really dished the dirt on the Vibro Champs' involvement in the Lady Di crash, and how Dianetics has utterly transformed their lives. Stay tuned.
4.01.03 A new month and new colors, but not a lot of news. It looks like a slow month but we'll try to post some new mp3s from live shows and radio appearances just to add spice and variety.
